Community Collaborations

Community Collaborations

Symphony in C is committed to partnerships with diverse organizations throughout the communities we serve in order to carry out our programs and fulfill our mission. The following partnerships are essential to Symphony in C’s success in performance, educational outreach, and audience development.

Performance Partnerships

Rutgers Camden Center for the Arts

Symphony in C, entering its second full season performing in the City of Camden, has forged a strong partnership with Rutgers University-Camden and Rutgers Camden Center for the Arts in order to provide our audiences with world-class performances in the acoustically pleasing Gordon Theater. Symphony in C and Rutgers work together to create a safe and enjoyable concert-going experience for audience members, collaborate in joint marketing and advertising efforts, and work together to most effectively engage the Rutgers University-Camden community by working with students, faculty and staff throughout the year.

Urbantrekkers & Urban Promise

Symphony in C continues its partnership with UrbanTrekkers, the expeditionary learning program at UrbanPromise. High school students from the UrbanPromise Academy volunteer at all season performances as the Symphony's ushers and concessionaires. The usher and concessions program is designed not only to expose students to classical music but to provide students with the opportunity to further develop their interpersonal and entrepreneurial skills. The concession proceeds benefit the UrbanTrekkers' program where students travel to places beyond their everyday lives, to the very places history was born as they seek to experience culture and arts through a myriad of opportunities found in the southern New Jersey region and beyond.

Greater Camden Partnership - Clean and Safe Ambassadors

Symphony in C recognizes that patron safety and comfort are crucial to a successful and enjoyable concert-going experience. For this reason, Symphony in C works with Greater Camden Partnership Clean and Safe Street Ambassadors to create a welcoming and safe presence around the Gordon Theater and the Rutgers University-Camden campus. Greater Camden Partnership is a public-private collaborative organization committed to the revitalization of the City of Camden through business development.

Astral Artistic Services

Symphony in C and Astral Artistic Services are both committed to the career development of young musicians. The Symphony is committed to strengthening the careers of orchestral musicians and Astral is committed to strengthening the careers of rising soloists. Symphony in C has featured Astral artists including Katherine Needleman, oboe; Nicolas Kendall, violin; Karen Slack, soprano; and Jason Vieaux, guitar. Through this collaboration, Symphony in C performs on Astral’s Rising Star Series at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia.

Educational Partnerships

Symphony in C has a longstanding partnership with Kingsway Learning Center through its Classroom Symphony music education program which was initiated at Kingsway Learning Center in 1992. This partnership began as a collaborative effort at making music a living presence for students with learning and developmental disabilities, and to educate them about music history, styles and terms. While the Symphony continues this partnership with Kingsway, the Classroom Symphony program has grown to also serve schools throughout Camden, Burlington and Gloucester Counties.
