The Tortoise and the Hare & Other Tales

Symphony in C’s first commercial recording, 'The Tortoise and the Hare (& Other Tales)' on Bridge Records.

This recording is a collection of works for children written by the Symphony’s Composer-in-Residence, Daniel Dorff. The recording sessions took place at the Walter Gordon Theater at Rutgers University-Camden. This is the first professional orchestral recording produced in Camden, NJ since the golden age of recordings under the RCA label.

The disc features six uplifting children's tales, narrated by popular Philadelphia television personality Ukee Washington and Broadway star Ann Crumb. Daniel Dorff has created engaging and humorous musical settings of four traditional tales, plus a new story about space travel, and a contemporary introduction to the instruments of the orchestra – ideal for introducing young listeners to the charms and delights of classical music. Dorff's compositions have been widely performed—having been commissioned four times by The Philadelphia Orchestra, twice by The Minnesota Orchestra's Kinder Konzert series, and by Symphony in C.

This exciting recording offers children a wonderful, entertaining introduction to the symphony orchestra and makes a perfect gift!
